Are You faithful?

Faithfulness is something that many don’t hold as a value anymore. We’re faithful in relationships as long as we’re satisfied. We’re faithful to a job as long as we don’t have to do anything extra. We’re faithful to a cause as long as it helps us to brag and feel great about ourselves. But what happens when something won’t benefit you? Are you still faithful? It saddens me that this generation is so absorbed with self. I’ll admit that there were times in my life where I only thought about how something would help me and if it didn’t I gone! But with maturity and growth I learned that was a horrible mindset to have.

So many times we read the book of Ruth and the focus is always on Boaz finding her. While that’s a great part of Ruth’s story what really impacts me is her faithfulness!

After her husband had died and it was just her and her mother in law Naomi. Naomi told her to leave. Ruth could have threw up the deuces and said “Lady you have nothing to offer me, you’re old and probably gonna be poor so I’m out!” But she didn’t, she told Naomi:

Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. Wherever you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May the LORD punish me severely if I allow anything but death to separate us!” (Ruth 1:16, 17 NLT)

Naomi had nothing to offer Ruth and there was a high probability that they would be poverty stricken since all the men in the family were dead. But Ruth stayed by her side. She was committed and faithful even when things looked grim, even when she wasn’t sure she was getting something out of it, she stayed and because of her faithfulness God blessed her greatly.

So, are you faithful and committed when it’s beneficial to you? Or are you faithful because that is apart of your character?

Be Faithful. Be Committed. Be Blessed.

I love you and Jesus loves you more!
