Check Your Motives

As apart of human nature we all want something. Some of us want to be rich, we want a fancy car, a big house, marriage, success, the list could go on forever but we all want something. As believers we know that when there is something we want or need we ask God for it. Throughout the Bible we see scripture after scripture giving us permission to ask God and it also tells us we will receive it.
Mark 11:24 ‘ Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have recieved it, and it will be yours’
Matthew 7:7 ‘Ask, and will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.’
John 14:13-14 ‘ Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.’
John 15:7 ‘If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.’
But what happens when you don’t receive it?
We spend so much time asking for this or that and we don’t check our hearts and our motives behind what we are asking for. Then we get upset at God or lose faith when things don’t go as we’d hope! But did you check your heart before you presented that request to the Lord?
James 4:3 says it plain and simple,
‘When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.’
We’re focused too much on our own satisfaction, our own happiness, our own feelings and not focused enough on glorifying God and being in His will. We must remember that God is not here for us, he’s not a magic genie that will grant our wish! He is truth and we’re here for Him, to do His work in the earth! We can’t expect to get the true riches and promises of God when our hearts and our wills don’t line up with His. His will is perfect, ours is flawed! When we follow Him he makes our paths straight.
A few things to ponder before asking something of God:
Is it to put me on a pedestal? Or God?
Does it line up with Gods word? If you aren’t sure, open your Bible and see what God says regarding the topic/issue.
Father, I pray that as your sons and daughters seek you in prayer, that we come to you with humble hearts and pure motives. Your word reminds us time after time to ask for things in your name and they will be suppiled. Thank you for loving us even when we fall short and still providing our every need. We ask that you continue to cleanse and purify our hearts. In Jesus Name. Amen.
I love you, and JESUS loves you more!

Enjoy Your Life

So the holidays are over, you’ve spent time with friends and family(which if you’re an introvert like me, you love spending time but it drains your energy when so many people are around!), you’ve stressed out about what gifts to buy and ate more food than you can handle. Although this time can be considered a break for some, I want you to ask yourself did you really take a break?
We often move so quickly through life, going from one moment to the next without taking the time to just breathe and enjoy the world around us. God created this wonderful thing called earth and there are so many fascinating things, people and places that we have yet to experience because we’re too busy focused on money, bills, clothes, drama, media etc.
Now I know everyone can’t get up this minute and book a flight to Africa to experience the beautiful scenery and culture. But you can get out of your house, put your smart phone away and go for walk to enjoy the nature in your neighborhood. Breathe in some fresh air for a change and reflect on the Creators creation!! Go visit a historical landmark in your city, drive a few towns over and enjoy a new place, try the food there, meet some new people.
I just want to remind you not to get so caught up in everyday mundane task that you don’t have time to truly enjoy life. I encourage you to take at least one day (or a few hours) out of the week to so something fun and exciting!
I love you & Jesus loves you more!!
